Over the past 30 years, The Flooring Co. have had the pleasure of working on many challenging, yet rewarding NHS projects. However, none have felt quite as poignant as the works we’ve carried out over the past nine months.
We were honoured to be asked to fit healthcare flooring for some of the country’s leading hospitals, including University College Hospital (UHC) and Moorfields Eye Hospital, as well as the world-renowned research university – Imperial College London.
Choosing the perfect healthcare flooring
At Moorfields Eye Hospital, we were tasked with helping to convert a 1500m2 industrial space into a fully operational, hygienic day centre.
We opted for Tarkett’s iQ Optima, which is one of the specially adapted hospital flooring types. The collection offers extreme durability and superior wear, which is perfect for areas with high foot traffic and patients with limited mobility. It’s also stain and abrasion resistant, giving it one of the best life-cycle costs on the market.
Hospital hygiene standards are perhaps the most important of all hygiene standards, so it was vital we fully coved and dressed the wall to ensure we met the strict requirements.
Supporting behind the scenes staff
At Imperial College London, we installed over 1000m2 of Interface’s Yuton carpet tiles to help create additional office space for professionals working behind the scenes. Interface Inc. is a global commercial flooring company with an integrated collection of carpet tiles and resilient flooring, including luxury vinyl tile (LVT) and nora® rubber flooring. The Yuton collection presents versatile value, with a muted palette of warm and cool greys.
All hands on deck
We continue to have teams working at London’s University College Hospital (UHC), and King George Hospital in Goodmayes, where we’re all hands on deck helping to prepare wards for patient use. This includes specialised CT scanner rooms, where we recently installed iQ Toro SC – a permanently static-conductive flooring developed for use in operating theatres, x-ray rooms, clean rooms and laboratories.
Overcome with pride and determination, we continue to support the NHS in our own little way, laying the floors for the real heroes to tread.
