The brief
Kings House School, a leading independent school in Richmond, appointed The Flooring Co to deliver a comprehensive flooring refurbishment across key teaching and support areas. The project required the installation of durable, easy-to-maintain wood-effect vinyl in the classroom, kitchen, stair landing, and children’s toilet areas, with the rear of the classroom finished in heavy-duty contract carpet to define a practical working zone.
The work was scheduled to take place during the half-term break to avoid disruption to pupils and staff.
The action
Drawing on our extensive experience working in educational environments, we carefully phased the installation to accommodate the existing furniture within the rooms, moving it systematically to one side to allow uninterrupted progress.
During preparation, two existing flooring layers were removed, revealing a timber subfloor with multiple fixings. These were addressed to ensure the surface was properly levelled and ready for the new floor coverings.
Installing vinyl in the compact children’s toilet cubicles demanded precision craftsmanship. We individually cut and seamlessly welded the vinyl under the partition walls, delivering a flawless, long-lasting finish.
Throughout the project, we maintained rigorous site standards, removing waste daily to keep the site clean and organised for when staff and students returned.
The results
The new flooring was completed ahead of schedule and has transformed the learning and support spaces, enhancing both functionality and visual appeal with a modern, welcoming finish.
By specifying high-performance vinyl and Heckmondwike Supacord carpet – known for its exceptional durability in education settings – the refurbishment ensures that the school’s facilities will stand up to the daily demands of a busy academic environment for years to come.
