Tarkett IQ Optima Vinyl and 100mm Cap and Cove Skirting / 2500m²

Delivering a seamless, hygienic flooring solution in a high-pressure healthcare setting while ensuring uninterrupted patient care

The brief

The Macmillan Centre at University College London Hospitals (UCLH) required a flooring upgrade across several areas to maintain a safe, hygienic, and functional environment for patients, staff, and visitors. The Flooring Co was appointed by Russell Cawberry as the trusted partner to deliver this essential project.

The work involved the installation of over 2500m² of Tarkett IQ Optima vinyl flooring and 100mm cap and cove skirting to meet infection control standards across patient areas. The project had to be delivered within a strict budget and timescale, with all work taking place out of hours to avoid disruption to hospital operations.

The action

Working in a live healthcare environment, The Flooring Co team committed to weekend-only, out-of-hours working, ensuring the hospital remained fully operational throughout the project. The team deployed sufficient labour resources to meet the tight programme and maintained clear communication with Russell Cawberry and the hospital teams at all times.

When changes to areas and specifications arose – sometimes as late as the day of installation – The Flooring Co used its in-house estimating software to update plans in real-time, ensuring every detail was aligned with the programme and budget.

The installation of cap and cove skirting across the site was essential to support infection control requirements, delivering a safe and seamless finish across all areas.

The results

Despite the challenges of a live hospital site and a demanding schedule, the project was completed within the budget period, with no additional downtime for the hospital. The new flooring has improved the functionality and hygiene of the Macmillan Centre, ensuring patients continue to receive care in a safe and welcoming environment.

Client feedback

“Working in a live environment always throws up its challenges, it was a pleasure working with The Flooring Co who met those challenges head on, partnering with Russell Cawberry to handover a successful project to UCLH Macmillan Centre.”
