The brief
LIFE Build Solutions Limited appointed The Flooring Co to deliver a flooring package for Palm Court, a historic renovation project in Richmond. The five-floor development required a combination of engineered herringbone timber flooring on the lower levels and high-quality carpet tiles for the upper floors. The challenge was to install premium flooring solutions that preserved the character of the building while ensuring durability and functionality.
The action
The project involved several structural challenges, including uneven subfloors, corridor ramps affecting timber bonds, damp floor issues, raised access floor tiles, and circular staircases. We conducted detailed levelling surveys, introduced strategic borders for seamless transitions, applied a liquid stabiliser and DPM to address moisture concerns, and scabbled metal surfaces for better adhesion. For the circular staircase, mock-ups confirmed that side-to-side plank installation provided the best aesthetic, with precision-machined brass nosing inserts. Using Havwoods HW2044 Pureplank Alpace and Interface Europe Composure carpet tiles for durability and a high-end finish, we navigated main contractor delays by adopting a flexible scheduling approach, ensuring seamless coordination and maintaining the highest craftsmanship standards.
The results
The project was successfully completed within budget despite timeline delays extending its duration. The final flooring installation seamlessly integrated with Palm Court’s heritage aesthetic, enhancing both the visual appeal and functionality of the space. The premium, cohesive finish throughout the building created a sophisticated and unified environment, complementing the historic character of the property.
