The brief

Following previous work together at the hospital, long-term partner Russell Cawberry appointed us to refurbish the aseptic suite at the Royal Marsden in Sutton. Aseptic suites are where sterile medicines are prepared, so the space has to meet the highest standards of cleanliness and infection control.

The brief was to replace the existing finishes with new, highly hygienic floor and wall coverings suited to how the area is used. The works had to be delivered within a six-month programme.

The action

Working closely with the site team, we planned the works around a time-restricted programme to fit in with the running of the hospital, with every stage carried out to a detailed plan.

Infection control was at the heart of the job. Our fitter adapted his approach and learned a new method of installing a more hygienic skirting system, giving a continuous, easy-to-clean finish where floor meets wall with no gaps or ledges for dirt and bacteria to collect.

Throughout the suite we installed Polyflor XL2000 in a range of colours and patterns, set out to a detailed layout. The colours mark out the different clean zones within the suite, so staff can see at a glance which area they are working in and the cleaning standard it requires.

Products installed:

  • Polyflor XL2000 vinyl in various colours – 600m² (throughout the aseptic suite, with colour zoning)
  • Hygienic skirting system (throughout the aseptic suite)

The project was completed in March 2026, with the suite handed back ready for use.

The results

  • Full refurbishment of the aseptic suite, covering 600m²
  • New hygienic skirting system installed to meet infection control requirements
  • Clean zones clearly marked out using a detailed colour and pattern layout
  • Six-month, time-restricted programme completed in March 2026
  • High-quality finish delivered within a working hospital
  • Another successful project at the Royal Marsden with long-term partner Russell Cawberry
