Sustainability and innovation: eco-friendly flooring solutions

Plant on sustainable flooring

Sustainability is no longer a buzzword – it’s a responsibility. At The Flooring Co, we’re proud to lead by example by integrating sustainable practices into every stage of our work. From the materials we source to the partners we choose; we’re actively reducing the environmental impact of flooring installations without compromising on performance or design.

Why sustainable flooring matters

Flooring makes up a significant portion of any building’s interior, so its environmental footprint matters. That’s why more clients – from schools and offices to large commercial spaces – are demanding eco-conscious solutions. Durable, low-emission flooring not only supports a greener build but also promotes healthier, safer spaces for everyone who uses them.

Our sustainable choices

We carefully select materials and partners that align with our environmental values. That includes:

  • Recycled and recyclable materials: Many of the products we specify include pre- and post-consumer recycled content, with some ranges designed to be fully recyclable at the end of life.
  • Natural, renewable options: We offer solutions like linoleum and wood flooring made from renewable raw materials, ideal for clients wanting a lower carbon footprint.
  • Low-VOC and solvent-free adhesives: To improve air quality and reduce emissions, we use low-emission adhesives and subfloor preparation products wherever possible.
  • Certified manufacturing: We work with ISO 14001 certified manufacturers who are independently recognised for their environmentally responsible production processes.

Our supplier network includes trusted names such as Forbo, Interface, Milliken, Tarkett, Gerflor, Karndean, and Polyflor – many of whom are global leaders in sustainable flooring systems.

Local partnerships, lower carbon

To reduce supply chain miles and minimise carbon emissions, we prioritise sourcing from UK-based or local suppliers where feasible. Keeping things closer to home helps reduce transport-related emissions and supports British manufacturing.

Smarter installations with less waste

We’re proud members of Recofloor and Carpet Recycling UK, two leading initiatives helping to divert waste from landfill. By collecting and recycling used vinyl flooring and carpet, we contribute to solving one of the flooring industry’s biggest environmental challenges.

We also reduce waste through on-site efficiency: using detailed cutting plans to minimise offcuts, removing materials daily, and properly recycling where possible.

A greener finish, floor by floor

Whether you’re aiming for BREEAM accreditation, looking to meet internal CSR goals, or simply want to futureproof your project, The Flooring Co offers eco-friendly flooring solutions backed by practical experience and trusted partnerships.

We believe that quality, style, and sustainability should always go hand in hand, and we’re here to help you achieve all three.
